Rescue Ink and Fifth Ave Veterinary
Specialists Give Amputee
Rottweiler a Second Chance

NEW YORK--([ندعوك للتسجيل في المنتدى أو التعريف بنفسك لمعاينة هذا الرابط])--On
Friday, June 18, at 12:00 p.m., animal-rescue group Rescue Ink and
Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists will give Thunder, a
Rottweiler who
was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the scars to prove
it, a
second chance at life.

On June 5, Thunder suffered multiple gun-shot wounds and was taken
by
New York Police Department officers for critical care to Fifth
Avenue
Veterinary Specialists. Reportedly, Thunder’s owner and two canine

companions were involved in a shooting that wounded Thunder and
fatally
injured his owner and the other dog.

Rescue Ink ([ندعوك للتسجيل في المنتدى أو التعريف بنفسك لمعاينة هذا الرابط]),
a bunch of tough-talking, tattooed, motorcycle-riding street guys,

stepped forward to take Thunder, rehabilitate him, and find him a
new
forever home.

That might prove more difficult than anyone thought: because of
the
severity of his wounds, Thunder had his front left leg amputated.

“We had originally hoped to repair Thunder's elbow fracture.
However, we
discovered during surgery that the damage to the joint was too
severe
and could not be reconstructed. Fortunately, Thunder is much more
comfortable now that the leg has been removed, and he is adapting
well
to his amputation. In fact, he is already standing and walking
short
distances on his own," said Tony Kahn, DVM, surgeon at Fifth
Avenue
Veterinary Specialists.

For the next eight to 12 weeks, Thunder must be supported at all
times
when standing so he does not stress the healing fractures in his
left
hind leg. The 125-pound Rottweiler will have to be “sling-walked”
every
four to six hours so he can eliminate.

“Thunder is going to need some help over the next few weeks, but
he’s
worth it,” said Rescue Ink’s Eric Bellows, who lost his own
Rottweiler
in recent weeks and who will rehabilitate Thunder at his home.
“He’ll
learn to walk on three legs – dogs are much better at adapting to
what
life throws them than most people are.”

Rescue Ink is all about second chances. Like Thunder, some of the
animals Rescue Ink saves wear the scars of a hard life, or have
disabilities. But they are just as loving and worthy of love as
anyone
else.

About Rescue Ink

Based in the New York City area, Rescue Ink was founded in 2007 by
a
close crew of neighborhood friends who were incensed by acts of
animal
abuse they saw on television and in newspapers. Their no-nonsense
approach to animal activism was chronicled in the popular National

Geographic Channel series “Rescue Ink Unleashed” and in the 2009
book
“Rescue Ink: How Ten Guys Saved Countless Dogs and Cats, Twelve
Horses,
Five Pigs, One Duck and a Few Turtles.”
